Remember Me by Winj

Word Count 317

The things that pop into my mind. This did and, with deepest respect and affection, I offer this little ditty up. Happy Birthday, Mr. Stacy!

I wasn’t going to post it, then I was, then I wasn’t LOL. Don’t want to seem presumptuous but, it definitely is not meant that way.

.

He pressed the button and the DVD stopped, a still shot of himself on the screen, the cowboy hat and gunbelt, arms crossed, head down as if deep in thought. He stared at it, a distant look in his eyes. He felt a hand press on his shoulder and looked up quickly.

“Are you alright?”

He smiled and patted her hand. “Sure. Just remembering. You know.” A shrug was all he could come up with.

She sighed and knelt next to the chair. “Good memories, I hope?”

“Sure, some. Could’ve been better, could’ve been worse but, yeah, I had a good time. I never would’ve thought after all these years so many people would remember, you know?”

She smiled brightly and gave him a shrug of her own. “Maybe that’s because you don’t realize just how special you are. Or how talented. You do know it’s not just those gorgeous blue eyes or that incredible smile, right? We could all see the remarkable talent, even those who were very young at the time.”

He smiled brightly at her and squeezed her hand. “I’m grateful for that, I really am. Time just seems to have flown by.”

“Happy Birthday, Jim.”

He looked in her eyes and laughed softly. “I’m still kickin, right?”

“You bet you are! And there are a lot of people who are very glad for that. So, what do you want for your birthday?”

He looked upward, a thoughtful expression on his face. After a moment, he said, “I’ve already got it. To be remembered.”
